Biography

Louis-Philippe Rochon is Full Professor of Economics at Laurentian University, Canada, where he has been teaching since 2004. Before that, he taught at Kalamazoo College, in Michigan. He obtained his doctorate from the New School for Social Research, in 1998, earning him an award for outstanding dissertation. He is currently Editor-in-Chief of the Review of Political Economy, and the Associate Editor of the Journal of Business and Economic Studies. He is the founder and past editor (now emeritus) of the Review of Keynesian Economics. He serves on the Editorial Board of 14 academic journals.

He is the author of over 150 articles in peer-reviewed journals and books, and has written or edited more than 40 books. He has been guest-editor for the Journal of Post Keynesian Economics, the International Journal of Pluralism and Economics Education, the European Journal of Economic and Social Systems and the International Journal of Political Economy. He has published on monetary theory and policy, post-Keynesian economics, and fiscal policy.

He has been a visiting scholar or professor in Australia, Brazil, France, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Poland, South Africa, and the United States, and has further lectured in Argentina, China, Colombia, Ecuador, Kyrgyzstan, and Peru, and Switzerland.  He has received grants from SSHRC, the Ford Foundation, the Mott Foundation, among other places. 

He is the Editor of two book series: New Directions in Post-Keynesian Economics (Elgar) and the Elgar Series on Central Banking and Monetary Policy, a series that currently has 8 books exploring and pushing the boundaries of oour underdstanding of monetary isuues.

He is the co-Director of the Monetary Policy Institute, which includes the widey-cited blog, the @monetaryblog.

Teaching

I lecture both in French and in English.  Courses include introductory level. Math for Economists, Money and Banking, History of Economic Thought, Intermediate Macroeconomics, Advanced Macroeconomics, and Canadian Economic Problems. 

My teaching philosophy centers around training students to be critical thinkers and scholars, which includes training them to write academic papers.  All my classes contain the writing of an essay. Emphasis is placed on asking the right question and providing a balanced answer.
