Residence COVID-19 Updates

To adhere to all government mandated emergency orders, University policies and Residence Rules & Regulations

Non- Medical Masks & Face Coverings
As per the University’s policy on Face Coverings, residents will be required to wear a non-medical mask or face covering when accessing common areas such as elevators, stairwells, buildings, classrooms, laundry rooms and when it is difficult to maintain a safe distance of 2 metres (6 feet) from others. Residents are encouraged to provide their own non-medical masks and face coverings.
Screening
Pre-Screening/ Testing before access to campus may be required, as determined by the university. A How to self-monitor guide will be placed in each apartment.
Physical Distancing - Physical distancing means limiting the number of people you come into close contact with and distancing from each other to reduce the opportunity for the virus to spread from person to person. Student Support
Laurentian Residence will continue to provide a high level support for all residents. Supports and check ins may vary between physical and virtual depending on social distancing rules and guidelines from Ontario public health. Support includes but is not limited to: Roommate agreements and conflict resolution, cleanliness checks, wellness checks, and educational programming (guided by the Okanagan Charter).
Conduct
Should there be a need for Residence to meet with students to mediate a conflict or resolve a community conduct issue, Residence Life staff will arrange meetings in person or virtually with students. Please be up to date with the addendum to the rules and regulations related to Covid-19. If you would like to discuss an issue you are having, an incident, or problems in residence, you can contact your resident assistant or Joseph McGibbon (Residence Life Manager) at jmcgibbon@laurentian.ca to schedule a meeting.
Health Services -
Students living in residence can contact healthservices@laurentian.ca or (705) 673-6546 (direct line) or (705) 675-1151 ext.1067 to book a virtual visit with the doctor or the Nurse Practitioner.
Local pharmacies also provide delivery services for any medications that you may need.
First-year Applicants
A place in residence is guaranteed for first-year candidates on the Sudbury campus if:
- they fill out an OUAC 101 admission application
- they apply at the University College Residence or at the Single Student Residence
- the admission criteria are met and the deadline of June 1, 2022 has been met

Sudbury Campus
Laurentian Residence has five buildings, each with their own personality. Each building is different in size, layout, shape, and furnishings, and even within the same complex, your room may not look exactly like the room of fellow residents. That being said, you’ll have the opportunity to give it your own flare -- that’s part of the beauty of living independently!
University College Residence (UC)
Eleven-storey building is a traditional dormitory-style that accommodates 240 students. Each floor is equipped with television/common room, kitchen, bathrooms and each bedroom features high speed internet access, porter services 24/7 and outdoor recreational facilities.
Single Student Residence (SSR)
Provides accommodations for 387 students in a three-storey building with self-contained apartments (four – six person apartments). Security and support 24/7. Each apartment has a living room, kitchen, two bathrooms, storage room and high speed internet access.
West Residence (West)
Six-storey air conditioned building with 55 furnished self-contained apartments (223 students) available for upper year-students, who meet credit or age requirements. Each apartment consists of four single furnished bedrooms, living room, kitchen and two bathrooms and is equipped with high-speed internet access . Each floor has a lounge where guests can meet and socialize.
East Residence (East)
Eleven-storey air conditioned building with 62 furnished self-contained apartments (236 students) available for upper year-students who meet credit or age requirements. Each apartment consists of four single furnished bedrooms, living room, kitchen and two bathrooms and is equipped with high-speed internet access.
Mature Student Residence (MSR)
Recently renovated, MSR is an 11-storey building with self-contained unfurnished apartments for upper-year students. 128 units which offer a one bedroom apartment-style living.
Huntington University Residence**
Huntington University Residence is independent of Laurentian University and is not operated by Laurentian University. First year students living in Huntington University Residence are required to purchase a mandatory meal plan.
Accommodates 162 students in 21 single and 68 double rooms.
The first-year residence guarantee does not apply to this residence.
